The Event of Awesomeness

aka Alex & Jeremy’s wedding/party

Pre-weekend update 21 May 2009

Plans are coming along nicely. Now that the big items are booked/mailed, we’ve got a million little things left to do, the biggest of which is planning the ceremony. We’re trying to find non-loveydovey, shortish, meaningful readings and vow ideas, but I can only read a couple a night before I either want to gag or get all weepy while reading them.

Any readings or vows you’ve heard that you really like?

  1. Mom Says:

First write what’s in your heart, what you believe about your future spouse, marriage and your perceptions of the future. Then go looking for vows that are similar or you may find you’ve written them already.

  2. Jo Ann Schoen Says:

    Good idea, Kris. I agree.

And I want to mention that although Bill and I spoke the traditional vows, we actually memorized them instead of “repeating after me.” I was surprised at the time at how much more sincere and meaningful the vows were when we didn’t repeat them in 3 word chunks.

    Try it yourself:
“I, Alexandra, take you, Jeremy, to be my husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish from this day forward until death do us part.”
