Progress! 9 September 2009
We finished a large group of Thank You notes last night! They’re heading out in the mail today and, hopefully, they will all keep their addresses to their final destinations. Georgia’s moving out in the next week or so, so we’re packing up things for her, which means we’ll have room to start unpacking and putting away the awesome subjects of said notes, which has prompted a new goal: to finish the thank you notes before we start using the majority of the wedding gifts. (The previous goal had been to finish them within a month of the wedding, but we have clearly missed that self-imposed deadline.) We’re about 2/3 finished with all of the notes, so I think that we can definitely meet the new goal!
Getting the flowers 30 August 2009
Friday morning, we went to the flower market and picked out the flowers! And then brought them home. My bouquet is lovely, no?

Don’t worry, we’re not done with this blog yet!
We’re busy writing thank you notes, getting our thoughts together from the weekend (and the honeymoon), and waiting for pictures from friends and the hired pro. So, stay tuned, and I’m sure things will settle down enough (and we’ll have things put together enough) for a full-on series of pictures and recaps in the near-ish future.

Love/hate 10 July 2009
We both have a weird love/hate relationship with the registry.
We both love that it’s an organized way to keep things in order, especially if things work correctly and three crock pots don’t show up at a shower.
It wasn’t a bad thing. I (and later, we) were pretty flattered that the thing people thought we needed most was a crock pot (and trust me, we do/did need a replacement for lil’ sparky.) We’re both excited that we can cook things for, say, a dinner + leftovers, or meatballs for a baby shower in something we have.
We’re both a little weirded out by the “this is what we want”aspect. I think we’d both be most comfortable with the old-fashioned “register for a pattern, not for specific things” days, or almost no registry at all (except for the communication aspect.)
So, we’ve both come to view the registry as a suggestion box, if youse guys feel the need to get us a something. Either it’s “this is the pattern we like, in dishes/silverware/etc we think will last a long time”, or, “this is a suggestion of what we like and know we’d use, if you find something better/cheaper/faster elsewhere, that’s fine with us.” We trust your judgement of what you think we might need, if you think we need something.
Help 9 July 2009
We need some help with things. Some of them are:
- Help with setting up the reception area (deliver and set up centerpieces/flowers, deliver cake plates, shepherd’s hooks and other items)
- Pick-up and deliver the booze (get the cold wine and beer from the liquor store, deliver to the MGH)
- Pick a name for our “signature drink.” It’s made with Dr. Enuf and gin, really tasty, trust me.

Thoughts 8 July 2009
The scene: It’s late. We’re up talking. And it’s about the wedding, of all things. I know, you’re amazed.
I guess it wasn’t so much about the wedding as it was about what comes after. Yeah, we’ve talked about logistics, about finances, about family, about the future before… but this weekend is when we put all these plans into action. Not every plan goes into action immediately, but the wheels start turning just a little bit faster: we’re not waiting on anything else to begin most plans.
We’ve heard conflicting reports about what happens after we turn in out papers. Some say that not much changes, and some say, “don’t let anybody fool you, marriage changes everything.” And some say that you should be married until you feel married.
In these last few weeks of preparation, we’ve started to feel married.
I don’t know if it’s the focused trips together, the working together on this project,the personal disappointments and focusing on concurrent goals, or each of us accomplishing personal goals… But it’s been nice to feel more “settled in” and confident in each other. I think we’re ready for this weekend.
